Known for its large, sprawling leaves, Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’ is a stunning tropical evergreen perennial plant that can be grown both outdoors and indoors. A type of elephant ear plant, its leaves can reach up to 20 inches long and are a deep velvety green color with bright green veins. The underside of the leaf is a dark green-purple hue, giving this plant an almost regal black color palette. Though quite rare, this Alocasia can produce white or green flowers in the early spring or summer.
Sunlight
Thrives in partial sun, or diffused light, such as on the edge of a covered patio or behind sheer drapery. Morning sun is preferred, as afternoon sun can be intense and can cause scorched leaves.
Water
Water 1 or 2 a week. The Regal Shield likes moderate amounts of water and does best when the top few inches of the soil is allowed to dry out in-between watering. Requires a slightly humid outdoor environment and above-average home humidity levels.
